The study of raptor birds migration has always been one of the main activities of the Milvus Group Association. In the past years, the association organised several camps whose main purpose was that of identifying the migration periods of different species of raptor birds. Of all these camps, the ones organised in the Macin Mountains in 2002-2007 were the most important from this point of view. Last year, the Milvus Group members set themselves a new objective, i.e. to identify the raptor birds which cross through Dobrogea. This new information will help them understand the possible negative effects of the existing and planned wind farms on migrating raptor birds.
In the first year the study has only covered Northern Dobrogea while this year they target the southern part of the region. The observations were organised simultaneously in 13 different locations and the study period was again chosen so as to overlap with the main stage of migration of the lesser spotted eagle, one of the key species targeted by the Milvus Group in their activities dedicated to raptor birds conservation.
